Chevrolet C8 Corvette ERay and a little about me
If you’ve found your way to my blog and aren’t really familiar with what a Corvette ERay is, this page will help bring you up to speed.
The new Corvette ERay has the same 495-hp V-8 engine that’s in the C8 Stingray, but it also has an additional 160-hp electric motor producing 125 lb-ft of torque that drives the front wheels, making it not only the quickest production Corvette ever, but also the first with all-wheel drive!
It’s a Performance Hybrid rather than one designed to greatly enhance gas mileage. When adding the horsepower ratings of the electric motor and V-8 engine together, you get 655 horsepower, which is the significance of that number in the banner. "All-wheel drive and six, fifty-five" has a nice ring to it.
The battery is small and is made to charge and discharge very quickly for a big burst of power. There’s nothing to plug in. It recharges itself a few different ways — among them, by capturing braking energy that’s wasted in most vehicles. There’s also a Charge+ button for when you want to manage your battery level a different way.
If all 655-hp isn't needed, an ERay can be driven for a short distance on electric power only, so you don’t even have to start the engine and disturb your neighbors if you’re leaving home early in the morning. Drive away silently, and the V-8 will roar to life automatically if the car wants to replenish the battery, or you can start the engine manually once underway.
Cool, huh?
I’ll regularly post about my ERay experiences here, covering all different aspects of this exciting new AWD Corvette. If you’re wondering how I’ve already managed to get a very early-production, custom ERay built and delivered to me, please read my ERay Deposit Series in the "ERay Experiences" menu.
By the way, my name is Barry, and my childhood nickname is “Bear” which is why I’ve used a bear emoji as my favicon, so you can easily identify which of your browser tabs is this website.
